History of Buddhist Meditation
Buddhist meditation technique, is the practice of meditation in Buddhism. Meditation in Buddhism is like sports in the United States of America. It is one of the most practiced exercises in the Buddhist tradition. They meditate for freedom, awakening, and Spiritual enlightenment. Meditation leads to a relaxed body and a calm mind. There are so many Buddhist meditation techniques, and they include sati, anussati, anapanasati, dhyana, and Brahma-viharas which are mindfulness, recollections, breathe meditation, developing alert and loving-kindness and compassion meditations in English.
Benefits of Buddhist Techniques
Generally, these techniques develop one’s consciousness, concentration, perception, and serenity. They also enable one to attain extraordinary powers. These techniques are taught to students and pupils in Buddhist schools so that as the young children grow, they will know to go about meditation. In Buddhism, meditation techniques are dived into Samatha which is calming the mind and Vipassana which is gaining perception. Different Buddhism classifies meditation differently.
History of Buddhist meditation
There is little contradiction about Buddha that arises due to the influence of non-Buddhist tradition on early Buddhism. Arguments on which meditation practices are acceptable before Buddha and which ones are not are some of the contradictions that arise in connection to Buddha. The main traditional meditation practices on India that influenced meditation are the Jain ascetic practices and the Vedic Brahmanical practices. Other meditation practices that Buddha underwent include extreme fasting and praying and also an involuntary meditation that He did without breathing. He also rejected most of the Jain ascetic extreme practices.

In addition, Meditation and contemplation are headed by introductory practices. Moreover, one needs to have sense restraint and the right efforts to meditate effectively. Sense restraints entail one being able to control their body bodily desires. And not allowing lust and aversion get in their way. They should be able to avoid such things that bring negative energy in their minds and that weigh them down. Right efforts aid in the prevention of any unpleasant rising state and generate pleasant states. In addition, the mind can only be ready for meditation when it has been well prepared and set.

Anussati or Recollection-This is a specific meditative practice that leads to the mind’s calmness and enduring joy.
Sati (mindfulness) and satipatthana (establishment of mindfulness). one of the most important aspects that need to be achieved in meditation is mindfulness. This means being able to remember. Therefore, it relates to one being able to remember the Buddha teachings and understanding how to apply those teachings in their lives. Buddha identified four foundations for mindfulness which include the body, feelings, the mind, and phenomena such as the five hindrances and seven factors of enlightenment.
Mindfulness Meditation in Buddhist Meditation Techniques
Furthermore, Anapanasati (mindfulness of breathing). Moreover, this is a very important meditation practice in Theravada and the Chan traditions of Buddhism. Also, it is the most used form of meditation for thinking about bodily phenomena. Generally, it entails concentrating on one’s breathing.
Furthermore, Asubha Bhavana or Reflection/unattractiveness. Also, this is a reflection on the foul. In addition, it entails understanding a third of the human body in various ways. It is practiced especially when one wants to fight lust and desire.
Finally, Brahmavihar- Is known to have been practiced to achieve freedom of the mind.
